How long have you been playing?
2.75 years
Have you ever been in low sec?
Never lived in low-sec, but always happy to find either targets or tasty stuff to harvest while being aware that space is NOT safe.
Do you run missions or complexes in low sec?
In Low-sec I'd say mostly complexes. Never ran a single mission in Low-Sec.
If so, what is the appeal for you?
To me, Low-sec is making more ISK if you can survive the high PvP environment.
If not, why not?
If not? Consider your place in EVE because it might not be the right game for you. Not saying this in a condescending tone.
Are rewards in low sec in line with the risk?
Currently, they are not. There should be much better rewards opposed to the risks.
Is the risk in low sec over-stated?
There is risk almost to the same level of 0.0, but on one side the rewards are not enough compared to the risks (of losing ships) and on the other side they penalties are too... penalizing for lack of a better term (sec status, criminal timers, etc.)
Would education from savvy players about how to mitigate risk in low sec encourage folks who didn't just want to AFK L4's to operate there?
Yes it would. My own corporation is working exactly towards that; MAPU is PvP minded so when we go out in Low-sec we like to find likely targets, and on the opposite we also like to find a nice combat deadspace complex that may deliver a tasty reward. For the record, we are not a pirate corp per se; we are almost what we would call anti-pirate, but if a tasty target presents itself (a lone mining ship not paying attention to what is going on in space or a PvE'er doing the same), we will jump on it as if we were in 0.0 space.
I really hope Low-sec can become a true middle ground between NPC-run space (Hi-sec) and full-on lawless player-run space (0.0). I also want more people to fly in/thru Low-sec, not only to have more targets to shoot at, but because it's actually worth it to go there and come out alive
